Children & Youth Worker

Location: Donside Community Church/The Lighthouse, based in Tillydrone, Aberdeen

Reports To: Donside Community Church Elder

Employment Type: Part-Time/Full-Time

Salary: Commensurate with age and experience

Job Summary:

The Youth Worker will play a crucial role in supporting and nurturing school-age children in the Tillydrone community. Working with Donside Community Church and the Lighthouse Project, the Youth Worker will develop and coordinate a variety of programmes, activities, and groups. The goal is to connect with children and young people, share the Christian gospel, and help young Christians grow.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead mid-week activities for children/youth who are not yet part of the church community

  • Plan, lead, and evaluate weekly youth group meetings, Bible studies, and discipleship programmes

  • Maintain and develop links with Riverbank primary school (including SU group) and develop partnerships with secondary schools

  • Organise and oversee youth events eg outreach weeks, residential camps, and social outings

  • Build strong, mentoring relationships with youth and their families

  • Collaborate with church leadership to integrate youth into the broader life of the church

  • Recruit, train, and support volunteers to assist in youth ministry

  • Maintain communication with parents, providing updates and resources to support their children’s development

  • Ensure a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all youth

  • Manage the youth ministry budget and resources responsibly

Qualifications:

  • A committed Christian with a strong personal faith and a calling to youth ministry

  • Experience working with young people in a church or community setting

  • Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills

  • Ability to teach and relate biblical truths in a relevant and engaging way

  • Familiarity with safeguarding policies and procedures (training will be provided if needed).

  • Ideally, some sporting prowess

  • Basic IT skills Microsoft office, effective and safe use of social media, web, database, etc

  • A satisfactory PVG Disclosure Scotland check

  • First aid certificate (or willingness to obtain one)

  • Good understanding of safe practices

  • Ideally but not essential; training in theology, youth ministry, or a related field

Working Hours:

Flexible, but would include evening and weekend working hours. Office based in Pennan Road, Tillydrone.
