Our Story

  • Donside Community Church - In April 2021, and in the midst of the COVID crisis, Donside Community Church was launched, holding a special online Easter service to mark the occasion. The choice of the name Donside acknowledges our location in Tillydrone, which is close to the bank of the River Don and also the fact that the church exists to share the gospel with the wider geographical community. The launch of the new church plant marked the beginning of a new relationship between Donside Community Church working alongside The Lighthouse for the glory of God in our local community. Our experience as a church family is that at every step on our journey, God has faithfully provided for our needs. Our congregation is now upwards of 100 people, from babies through to Bill who is in his 90s, from different backgrounds and nationalities. Our morning service is centred on clear, relevant, accessible bible teaching. To learn more see our core values page.

  • Our new building. We have now moved into our new premises on Pennan Road. For more information on the building project please visit the building project page.

  • How it all began. In 2003, a partnership between Deeside Christian Fellowship, Prison Fellowship and Aberdeen City Mission created The Lighthouse, a ministry for those struggling with addiction and other social issues in the TIllydrone area. The venue was a small burned out former shop unit. Over the past 20 years, The Lighthouse grew from those humble beginnings to over 20 projects, 70 volunteers and is now a multi-faceted community outreach which continues to transform local community with the hope and light of the gospel each week. You can find out more about the work of the Lighthouse by going to the website.

In 2015 people from the Tillydrone community attending Lighthouse groups expressed a desire to have a weekly Sunday service. To meet that need, a core team was brought together with members from Deeside Christian Fellowship, and the first Sunday service was held on the 17th October 2015. The services were joyful, family focussed (at times a bit chaotic!), with a bible talk each week. God blessed this fledgling venture which went on to grow into what is now Donside Community Church.
